Urban Props uses commercially available digital models of garbage bags, newspaper boxes, cigarette butts, and fire hydrants, as its basis. Video game designers typically license these low-resolution model packs and use them as set-dressing so they can concentrate on designing games action.
The digital models I used are interpretations of American urban detritus and street furniture purchased from a French 3D model company. I rematerialized these models as paper sculptures at different scales, placed them in locations around NYC and documented these against the real urban spaces that there were based upon.
